Building Materials Logistics offers complete truck and driver solution

Specialist Driver Resourcing (SDR) has announced the launch of its new sister company, Building Materials Logistics (BML), marking a significant step in the business’ evolution.

Originally established as a specialist provider of temporary drivers to builders’ merchants and building materials suppliers, SDR has built its reputation on delivering experienced, fully compliant drivers with the consistency and sector knowledge that customers rely on.

The launch of Building Materials Logistics reflects the natural progression of that offer, responding to growing demand from merchants and manufacturers for a more complete logistics solution.

BML gives merchants access to a combined vehicle and driver service, supporting businesses with both short-term requirements and longer-term transport needs. By bringing together SDR’s expertise in driver resourcing with a dedicated logistics operation, BML is positioned to offer a more streamlined and accountable approach to moving building materials across the UK.

Simon Pritchard, CEO of Building Materials Logistics, said: “Over the years that Specialist Driver Resourcing has been working with merchants, we’ve seen the problems that merchants can encounter when their lorries break down. Last-minute logistics issues can slow down deliveries, frustrating customers and causing delays that merchants can ill afford during such challenging times.

“That’s why we’ve launched Building Materials Logistics as a sister company to SDR. As well as SDR’s experienced drivers, through BML we can also supply lorries to merchants when they’re needed, giving merchants a complete transport solution to make sure that they’re tight delivery schedules can always be met.”

BML is currently operating in South-East England, offering a service to all builders’, timber and plumbing merchants within a 50-mile geographical radius of Southampton. This will expand steadily over the coming years, until BML operates right across mainland UK alongside SDR.

By offering a fully managed service, BML enables merchants to access additional transport capacity to cover unexpected breakdowns, or to meet unexpected demands, without the administrative burden of managing vehicles, drivers and compliance separately. This gives businesses greater flexibility, improved visibility and the reassurance that operations are being handled by a team with a deep understanding of the building materials sector.

The launch also strengthens SDR’s overall proposition, allowing the business to support customers at multiple levels depending on their needs, whether that is individual driver cover or a fully outsourced logistics solution.

With Building Materials Logistics now in place, the business is aiming to provide a more complete answer to the challenges facing construction distribution, combining specialist knowledge, operational control and a focus on compliance in a way that reflects the realities of the modern supply chain.
